My Body.
How does my body do that?
While each of our body systems has a specific role, they all interact with one another. This level of complexity, of feedback loops, chemical reactions and information processing, allows us to do some AMAZING things! So let’s take a look at some of the things the human body can do.
Movement involves the co-ordination of the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems, and because of this, the way we each individually move will vary. However you move your body, there are some basic biomechanics involved.
Did you know that you rely on your brain to be able to see not your eyes? The eyes collect information from the world around us, but it is the brain that helps us to make sense of it.
The food we eat provides us with the energy we need for our body to function, but how do we get the energy out of the food? What really happens to our food once it enters our body?
Humans are always interacting with their environment. Our senses develop as we grow up, and the way we sense the world is impacted by our neurology.
Many humans are able to make a wide range of vocalisations. The sound which is created depends on the mouth shape, breath, vocal chords and the position of the tongue. Beatboxer Tom Thumb wanted to explore the biomechanics of vocalisations, so he teamed up with a surgeon to investigate what really happened when he creates his music.

Inside The Body
Joëlle Jolivet has created this wonderful guide to the human body. It is cleverly designed with lift-up flaps and large fold-out sections, to allow you to explore the different layers of the body’s tissues and organs.
